Financial Literacy and Empowerment for At-Risk Youth

Financial markets have become increasingly complex and, therefore, a comprehensive financial education process is needed to make informed decisions about all aspects that involve personal finances.

However, financial education is especially low in young adults at social risk. Research shows that this group must make economic decisions and deal with financial products without having the basic knowledge. At the same time, the inclusion of the voices of young adults is not considered in the elaboration of curricula on financial education, which is essential to give a real answer to their needs and that would allow them to be more active, independent and entrepreneurs.

FLEARY project wants to respond to the need to provide the economic and financial and digital knowledge to consumers that can be particularly vulnerable and need specific safeguards, as young people, which should constitute the minimum cultural background that future savers must have in order to better manage their finances.

The objective of the proposal is then to bring young people closer to the increasingly important and current topic of saving and investment, in a simple and accessible way, helping to fill a gap in financial education that historically exists between young Europeans.

Project activities are:

·       Financial Literacy curriculum co-creation: elaboration of a methodology and a curriculum through the development of a participatory process with young adults at risk in different partner organizations.

·       Organisation of national seminars: to multiply the effect of the co-creation process developed by the project and of its curriculm and to improve capacity and expertise of professionals active in consumer education and consumer advice.

·       Creation of an information and awareness campaign on the main social media ( Facebook, Twitter, Instagram): creation of a social media campaign aimed at informing citizens and educating them on a conscious approach to consumption.
